2021 Annual Daniel K. Akaka (ALA) Hawaii Food Show Cancelled – Gov. David Ige reinstates restrictions
August 11, 2021 – On Tuesday, August 10, 2021, Governor David Ige imposed new restrictions statewide that limits private social gatherings and the number of people who can gather in bars, restaurants and other establishments in an attempt to dampen the spread of COVID-19 and avert a health care crisis.
The new Executive Order, which took effect immediately, limits social gatherings to no more than 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors. Bars, restaurants, gyms and other social establishments also must reduce their capacity by 50%. Patrons must remain seated, within 6 ‘of distance maintained between parties and cannot mingle. Masks are required at all times, except when eating or drinking.
The 24th Annual Food Show was set to feature 57 local companies of which 12 were new to the military resale system to more than 75 buyers that were comprised of the Defense Commissary Agency, AAFES, Navy Exchange Command System, MCCS, Coast Guard Exchange and DLA Troop Support. According to Sharon Zambo-Fan, Chairwoman, “It’s truly an unfortunate situation, everyone worked so hard on this event however, and the safety of everyone is a top priority. We have worked closely with our business partners and the local companies will still have an opportunity for the buyers to review their new items. The Defense Commissary Agency Buyers will meet with the local companies in an approved setting maintaining COVID 19 requirements”.
The show looks to return in 2022 when it will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Daniel K. Akaka ALA Hawaii Food Show and Conference on August 14 – 17, 2022 at the Prince Waikiki Hotel.
